Johnny Depp Biography:
Starting out as just another teenage heartthrob, Johnny Depp has turned into a highly respected indie actor who chooses roles from all parts of the spectrum. He was born June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Ky., and dropped out of school to become a musician.
He made his film debut in 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street and starred as a regular on TV's "21 Jump Street" (1987-1992). Depp's first collaboration with director Tim Burton in 1990's Edward Scissorhands established his reputation for quirky roles, risk-taking and memorable performances.
He starred opposite Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco, portraying an undercover cop, and played a drug trafficker in Blow, proving that he's an excellent serious actor as well. 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean elevated him to box office gold.
