Actor Spotlight - Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage Biography:

Born Nicholas Coppola on January 7, 1964, in Long Beach, Calif., Cage is the son of college professor August Coppola, nephew of director Francis Coppola and cousin of Sofia Coppola. He dropped out of Beverly Hills High to pursue acting, changing his name to declare his independence from the Coppola empire.

After a bit part in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, uncle Francis cast Cage in 1983's Rumble Fish; that and the same year's Valley Girl set his career in motion. He worked for Francis again in The Cotton Club and Peggy Sue Got Married, and made cult-movie history by eating a live cockroach in Vampire's Kiss.

Cage's role as a doomed alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas (1995) won him the Best Actor Academy Award. He was nominated again for 2002's Adaptation, in which he played identical twins. Other unforgettable Cage moments are to be relished in Birdy, Raising Arizona, Face/Off and Snake Eyes.
