Will Smith Biography:
Fresh Prince Will Smith is a bona fide Hollywood rarity: a Grammy Award-winning rap star who has successfully crossed over into superstar leading man status in movies. Born September 28, 1968, in Philadelphia, Pa., Smith was the second of four kids to mom Caroline and dad Willard Smith.
Smith, who earned the moniker "Prince" because of his innate charm, teamed up with DJ Jazzy Jeff, and the duo quickly found fame (and a record contract) as rappers. In 1989, Smith translated his musical success into a long-running TV sitcom, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."
From there, it was a short step to feature films, several of which became Hollywood blockbusters, including Independence Day (1996) and Men in Black (1997). Married to actress Jada Pinkett (whom he met when she auditioned for the role of his TV girlfriend on "Fresh Prince"), Smith has three children.
