There are some disadvantages of an online rental service when compared with a local video store. Those include:
Immediate Delivery
While you might have a few titles on hand to watch, you may be in the mood for something different and a trip to the local video store might be in order.
Price
If you don't watch a lot of movies, an online rental service can be expensive to maintain. Especially if you are out of town, or busy with other things, you are still going to be charged the same amount even if you don't watch any DVD movies. If you see 9 movies in a month at Netflix, that averages out to $2.00 each!
Late fees
Ok, late fees can sometimes be a motivator to get you off the mark and watch a DVD that you know needs to be returned. You may end up enjoying it more than you thought.
Personalization
If you have a really good local video store, with a staff that you can depend on to give you excellent recommendations, that can really help out when you aren't quite sure what you want and need some advice.
